saved me me in in more more than than one one way way You You ve ve had had zen zen moments moments in in your your life life but but chances chances are are you you never never analyzed analyzed them them to to see see what what caused caused them them and and how how to to get get more more of of them them You You can can get get to to know know the the Zen Zen Buddhist Buddhist philosophy philosophy and and use use it it to to end end your your suffering suffering find find happiness happiness and and meaning meaning without without changing changing anything anything improve improve your your relationships relationships overcome overcome the the hardships hardships of of life life deal deal with with loss loss and and much much more more That That s s what what I I did did back back in in the the days days and and the the simple simple but but powerful powerful realizations realizations I I came came to to helped helped me me transform transform my my thoughts thoughts which which then then affected affected my my actions actions Once Once you you do do that that you you can can change change your your reality reality Truth Truth is is I I first first worked worked on on my my spiritual spiritual development development before before I I moved moved onto onto personal personal growth growth after after which which I I pursued pursued business business growth growth It It all all begins begins on on the the inside inside by by getting getting to to know know yourself yourself letting letting go go of of the the past past and and the the regrets regrets that that go go with with it it handling handling stress stress and and anxiety anxiety dealing dealing with with unresolved unresolved issues issues that that are are blocking blocking your your clear clear share share below below But But with with everything everything else else going going on on in in your your life life you you probably probably didn didn t t pay pay enough enough attention attention to to any any of of them them But But these these can can t t be be practiced practiced without without a a deep deep understanding understanding of of their their meaning meaning I I believe believe it it s s worth worth it it and and such such a a process process of of self self awareness awareness can can lead lead to to inner inner fulfillment fulfillment for for the the rest rest of of your your life life So So here here are are the the zen zen teachings teachings that that helped helped me me live live the the life life I I now now enjoy enjoy every every day day Zen Zen Principles Principles of of Life Life Suffering Suffering is is inevitable inevitable but but you you are are the the one one who who can can end end it it According According to to Buddhism Buddhism there there s s a a lot lot of of pain pain in in life life and and there there s s no no way way to to avoid avoid it it However However suffering suffering is is something something we we choose choose Buddha Buddha talks talks talked talked about about getting getting hurt hurt by by an an arrow arrow and and gave gave this this as as an an example example of of real real pain pain What What comes comes after after it it though though which which depends depends on on whether whether or or not not you you re re in in harmony harmony with with yourself yourself and and the the world world is is suffering suffering And And you you do do it it to to yourself yourself That That s s the the overthinking overthinking the the blaming blaming getting getting angry angry seeking seeking revenge revenge reliving reliving the the experience experience in in your your mind mind complaining complaining about about it it grieving grieving about about the the wound wound and and more more This This really really helps helps give give a a perspective perspective and and we we can can understand understand the the difference difference between between pain pain and and suffering suffering And And while while it it s s true true that that life life goes goes together together with with death death illness illness and and pain pain there there s s no no need need to to bring bring mental mental suffering suffering too too by by not not letting letting go go of of the the experience experience Life Life is is amazing amazing and and much much easier easier to to handle handle once once you you understand understand this this simple simple truth truth The The zen zen life life has has no no suffering suffering in in it it simply simply because because anyone anyone following following this this philosophy philosophy found found a a way way to to end end their their suffering suffering and and free free themselves themselves from from the the emotional emotional pain pain One One of of the the main main causes causes for for this this is is attachment attachment which which brings brings us us to to the the next next one one of of the the zen zen principles principles Free Free yourself yourself from from attachment attachment to to fully fully experience experience life life People People get get attached attached to to their their partner partner belongings belongings career career hopes hopes and and dreams dreams the the past past or or else else That That behavior behavior is is harmful harmful as as it it brings brings more more suffering suffering to to your your life life The The moment moment you you get get too too attached attached you you become become more more vulnerable vulnerable and and thus thus allow allow yourself yourself to to be be hurt hurt You You also also start start having having expectations expectations and and try try to to fill fill a a void void inside inside you you with with the the object object you you re re attached attached to to That That s s because because you you seek seek happiness happiness in in external external sources sources when when actually actually it it s s already already here here everywhere everywhere around around you you I I ll ll talk talk about about this this in in one one of of the the next next zen zen principles principles on on the the list list The The truths truths I I m m sharing sharing now now are are all all connected connected really really The The foundation foundation of of Buddhism Buddhism is is The The Noble Noble Truths Truths These These teachings teachings talk talk about about what what suffering suffering is is what what causes causes it it and and how how attachment attachment is is the the way way out out of of this this mental mental trap trap That That s s also also the the way way to to finding finding the the path path to to enlightenment enlightenment Attachment Attachment is is wrong wrong because because everything everything in in life life is is impermanent impermanent That That means means we we don don t t own own anything anything and and won won t t have have anyone anyone in in our our lives lives for for long long Even Even our our own own time time here here is is limited limited so so we we shouldn shouldn t t spend spend it it by by living living with with the the burden burden of of attachment attachment Buddhism Buddhism can can help help you you accept accept pain pain but but eliminate eliminate suffering suffering Oftentimes Oftentimes the the hard hard question question is is when when to to attach attach and and when when to to let let go go I I thought thought about about this this a a lot lot and and the the answer answer was was almost almost always always to to let let go go It It helps helps you you live live the the zen zen way way and and be be not not just just your your best best version version but but also also make make others others happy happy by by serving serving sure that that we we will will experience experience loss loss Giving Giving this this existential existential truth truth some some time time to to sink sink in in helped helped me me look look at at things things from from another another perspective perspective There There s s nothing nothing I I could could do do about about the the impermanent impermanent things things in in life life and and feeling feeling bad bad about about this this or or getting getting depressed depressed is is a a waste waste of of time time When When you you allow allow your your subconscious subconscious mind mind to to believe believe this this too too you you enter enter another another mental mental state state where where you you can can take take action action without without fearing fearing failure failure If If we we can can t t really really have have anything anything forever forever then then we we might might as as well well make make the the most most of of the the things things we we have have now now I I tried tried to to appreciate appreciate the the people people in in my my life life more more and and that that became became the the next next one one of of my my top top zen zen principles principles In In fact fact one one of of the the critical critical things things that that helped helped me me be be more more patient patient with with my my parents parents instead instead of of annoyed annoyed all all the the time time was was the the habit habit of of reminding reminding myself myself that that they they won won t t be be here here forever forever This This changed changed everything everything Whenever Whenever you you re re about about to to judge judge someone someone don don t t feel feel like like listening listening to to them them are are annoyed annoyed at at being being asked asked many many questions questions or or are are in in a a bad bad mood mood and and can can t t deal deal with with a a friend friend remember remember this this That That person person won won t t be be here here for for long long But But they they are are giving giving you you their their most most precious precious thing thing their their time time right right now now By By investing investing yours yours too too listening listening actively actively and and truly truly being being there there without without bringing bringing arguments arguments from from the the past past or or expecting expecting them them to to behave behave in in a a certain certain way way you you can can bring bring joy joy to to both both of of you you and and have have a a meaningful meaningful conversation conversation Live Live simply simply I I ve ve always always been been interested interested in in the the life life of of a a zen zen monk monk Monks Monks are are truly truly contented contented but but own own almost almost nothing nothing Their Their days days are are simple simple They They work work hard hard have have dedicated dedicated their their life life to to serving serving others others meditate meditate to to rest rest and and empty empty their their mind mind have have a a light light smile smile on on their their face face all all the the time time eat eat simple simple food food have have just just a a few few pieces pieces of of clothing clothing don don t t complain complain judge judge or or have have wishes wishes to to achieve achieve more more There There s s wisdom wisdom in in this this and and many many signs signs of of what what true true happiness happiness looks looks like like One One of of the the zen zen principles principles I I paid paid attention attention to to over over the the years years was was to to simplify simplify my my existence existence I I became became more more of of a a minimalist minimalist in in a a few few ways ways Hunt Hunt Down Down Your Your Goals Goals and and Become Become Fearless Fearless Like Like a a Lion Lion Hunt Hunt Down Down Your Your Goals Goals and and Become Become Fearless Fearless Like Like a a Lion Lion Elimination Elimination is is a a powerful powerful process process Truth Truth is is people people own own more more than than they they need need do do many many unnecessary unnecessary things things every every day day keep keep themselves themselves busy busy have have too too much much information information in in their their head head want want to to keep keep up up with with everything everything going going on on wish wish for for more more friends friends more more money money new new belongings belongings etc etc However However turns turns out out these these desires desires also also lead lead to to suffering suffering There There s s always always something something more more so so satisfaction satisfaction never never comes comes by by chasing chasing it it What What if if we we look look at at what what we we already already have have and and realize realize it it s s more more than than enough enough And And don don t t think think that that can can stop stop you you from from being being successful successful or or reaching reaching your your goals goals The The secret secret is is in in finding finding balance balance between between taking taking action action and and being being grateful grateful and and peaceful peaceful The The way way I I do do it it is is this this I I don don t t have have too too many many goals goals or or too too many many things things on on my my to to do do list list The The ones ones that that have have place place there there are are essential essential it it s s what what I I truly truly want want and and every every day day I I take take action action to to get get closer closer At At the the same same time time though though I I also also stop stop look look around around and and thank thank for for the the abundance abundance I I live live in in That That reminds reminds me me that that even even if if nothing nothing changes changes I I ll ll be be happy happy Such Such a a comforting comforting thought thought is is important important to to staying staying sane sane in in the the process process of of getting getting ahead ahead but but also also to to make make sure sure you you don don t t miss miss out out on on the the beauty beauty of of the the present present moment moment Follow Follow this this one one of of the the zen zen principles principles by by removing removing the the unnecessary unnecessary in in your your life life and and living living more more like like a a zen zen monk monk We We are are building building our our own own prisons prisons I I was was feeling feeling guilty guilty for for so so much much a a few few years years ago ago Even Even things things such such as as knowing knowing I I m m not not making making the the most most of of my my time time rejecting rejecting others others and and thus thus hurting hurting them them and and not not appreciating appreciating the the people people in in my my life life enough enough were were bothering bothering me me although although I I wasn wasn t t dong dong anything anything to to change change that that Such Such a a vicious vicious circle circle Also Also although although pretty pretty young young and and not not having having done done anything anything too too bad bad I I was was going going back back to to mistakes mistakes from from the the past past I I felt felt bad bad about about them them over over and and over over again again My My life life was was easy easy and and instead instead of of enjoying enjoying that that I I was was looking looking for for a a way way to to make make it it feel feel fair fair as as I I thought thought I I don don t t deserve deserve it it At At some some point point it it hit hit me me and and that that s s how how I I was was introduced introduced to to the the next next one one of of the the life life changing changing zen zen principles principles All All this this guilt guilt was was pointless pointless and and only only making making things things worse worse Thanks Thanks to to getting getting familiar familiar with with the the teachings teachings of of Zen Zen Buddhism Buddhism I I realized realized that that guilt guilt is is a a choice choice and and I I can can decide decide to to let let it it go go and and continue continue my my life life without without it it I I learned learned that that feeling feeling guilty guilty all all the the time time for for no no apparent apparent reason reason was was a a common common thing thing in in the the Western Western world world and and some some more more peaceful peaceful and and easy easy going going cultures cultures such such as as those those in in Asia Asia didn didn t t struggle struggle with with something something like like that that By By feeling feeling guilty guilty we we are are punishing punishing ourselves ourselves You You will will not not be be punished punished for for your your anger anger you you will will be be punished punished by by your your anger anger Buddha Buddha We We feel feel bad bad about about something something we we did did or or didn didn t t do do There There s s a a lot lot we we can can learn learn about about this this condition condition from from a a psychological psychological point point of of view view but but that that s s not not the the point point here here The The zen zen principles principles and and living living imply imply that that we we all all make make mistakes mistakes as as we we aren aren t t perfect perfect Perfection Perfection is is an an illusion illusion So So accept accept the the fact fact that that you you have have done done wrong wrong things things and and you you ll ll probably probably do do some some more more in in the the future future even even if if you you try try your your best best That That s s okay okay Let Let it it go go be be free free from from the the negativity negativity embarrassment embarrassment and and guilt guilt You You hurt hurt people people in in your your life life all all the the time time without without even even realizing realizing it it You You hurt hurt yourself yourself by by not not forgiving forgiving yourself yourself about about everything everything from from the the past past not not celebrating celebrating your your successes successes and and giving giving yourself yourself some some credit credit not not following following your your dreams dreams not not ending ending a a bad bad relationship relationship and and more more But When you you realize realize how how perfect perfect everything everything is is you you will will tilt tilt your your head head back back and and laugh laugh at at the the sky sky Buddha Buddha I I like like many many of of you you was was focusing focusing on on what what I I wanted wanted to to get get rid rid of of in in my my life life the the things things I I didn didn t t like like the the stuff stuff I I wanted wanted more more of of At At the the end end of of the the day day I I wasn wasn t t acknowledging acknowledging all all that that I I did did have have which which was was perfect perfect It It wasn wasn t t until until I I started started practicing practicing mindfulness mindfulness being being in in the the present present moment moment and and accepting accepting everything everything for for what what it it is is as as it it s s exactly exactly what what it it s s supposed supposed to to be be that that I I became became much much happier happier without without changing changing anything anything If If something something isn isn t t perfect perfect that that means means you you have have created created a a picture picture in in your your mind mind of of how how it it s s supposed supposed to to be be So So now now you you aim aim to to achieve achieve that that outcome outcome in in reality reality too too But But people people and and life life itself itself have have limitations limitations And And what what s s in in our our mind mind isn isn t t always always how how things things are are supposed supposed to to be be There There s s something something called called the the Zen Zen way way the the natural natural flow flow of of events events We We should should stop stop trying trying to to control control everything everything and and accept accept things things more more Then Then we we can can look look around around and and see see we we already already have have all all that that we we need need That That brings brings contentment contentment it it makes makes you you grateful grateful and and joyful joyful And And by by some some magic magic force force the the more more you you focus focus on on what what you you already already have have and and appreciate appreciate it it the the more more you you get get from from it it Understand Understand that that you you re re doing doing great great what what you you don don t t like like and and want want more more of of is is actually actually okay okay And And if if you you stop stop expecting expecting and and start start accepting accepting you you ll ll feel feel like like the the richest richest person person in in the the world world Be Be kind kind and and forgive forgive Another Another one one of of the the zen zen principles principles of of life life is is about about compassion compassion The The act act of of forgiving forgiving of of being being kind kind both both to to yourself yourself and and to to others others Silence Silence the the angry angry man man with with love love Silence Silence the the ill ill natured natured man man with with kindness kindness Silence Silence the the miser miser with with generosity generosity Silence Silence the the liar liar with with truth truth Buddha Buddha The The best best way way to to make make the the world world a a better better place place is is to to be be kind kind to to others others Sometimes Sometimes a a smile smile compliment compliment or or just just being being there there for for them them can can make make someone someone s s day day Also Also by by sending sending such such vibes vibes to to people people you you get get the the same same in in return return and and every every day day becomes becomes a a positive positive experience experience Compassion Compassion is is about about understanding understanding others others knowing knowing we we re re all all equal equal and and connected connected forming forming relationships relationships without without expecting expecting anything anything from from the the other other person person Judging Judging and and blaming blaming are are wrong wrong They They bring bring negative negative emotions emotions and and make make us us suffer suffer so so let let them them go go I I significantly significantly improved improved my my relationships relationships and and let let go go of of some some of of the the pain pain from from the the past past by by learning learning how how to to forgive forgive Like Like anything anything else else that that works works best best if if you you manage manage to to forgive forgive yourself yourself first first Remind Remind yourself yourself that that you you re re allowed allowed to to make make mistakes mistakes and and that that you you re re taking taking the the lesson lesson out out of of each each in in order order to to move move on on stronger stronger When When others others hurt hurt you you in in some some way way don don t t take take it it personally personally It It usually usually isn isn t t Make Make this this one one of of your your zen zen principles principles in in life life too too Whenever Whenever someone someone in in my my life life does does something something I I m m not not happy happy with with I I remember remember that that these these people people don don t t have have it it easy easy either either I I can can never never know know what what s s going going on on in in their their head head so so I I shouldn shouldn t t start start an an argument argument make make them them feel feel guilty guilty about about how how they they treated treated me me or or else else Kindness Kindness heals heals all all kinds kinds of of wounds wounds Practice Practice it it even even though though other other people people will will keep keep doing doing the the same same things things to to you you Over Over time time you you ll ll notice notice how how they they are are becoming becoming kinder kinder too too and and your your relationship relationship gets gets easier easier and and more more enjoyable enjoyable Use Use that that approach approach for for family family members members too too Sometimes Sometimes we we end end up up being being angry angry at at our our parents parents because because we we assume assume they they didn didn t t raise raise us us right right But But they they did did what what they they could could It It s s just just that that their their version version of of right right is is different different They They don don t t always always know know our our true true desires desires and and can can t t take take us us on on the the right right path path They They want want us us to to be be happy happy but but have have a a different different plan plan for for that that Instead Instead of of blaming blaming your your parents parents for for their their high high expectations expectations try try to to see see things things from from their their point point of of view view You You ll ll notice notice that that they they dedicated dedicated their their best best years years to to giving giving you you the the life life you you once once took took for for granted granted And And for for that that you you should should be be forever forever grateful grateful Unconditional Unconditional love love does does exist exist but but we we re re change change them them blame blame them them for for what what they they did did in in the the past past or or expect expect from from them them more more than than they they can can give give you you But But it it is is true true love love when when you you find find a a way way to to appreciate appreciate everything everything about about that that person person especially especially their their flaws flaws It It is is love love when when you you expect expect absolutely absolutely nothing nothing in in return return and and truly truly want want them them to to be be happy happy even even if if that that doesn doesn t t mean mean they they will will choose choose to to spend spend their their life life with with you you That That involves involves leaving leaving behind behind our our own own desires desires and and wishing wishing these these people people the the best best We We can can love love them them from from a a distance distance or or even even if if we we move move on on and and find find someone someone else else to to spend spend our our lives lives with with Making Making this this one one of of our our zen zen principles principles can can change change the the way way we we treat treat others others and and ourselves ourselves Such Such love love is is a a form form of of energy energy and and it it doesn doesn t t need need to to go go away away It It can can transform transform into into other other good good things things People People also also wrongly wrongly assume assume that that love love hurts hurts But But no no it it s s rejection rejection that that hurts hurts it it s s breaking breaking up up that that hurts hurts it it s s getting getting attached attached and and having having high high expectations expectations that that can can t t be be met met that that hurts hurts Love Love itself itself is is what what life life is is all all about about and and the the teachings teachings of of Buddhism Buddhism about about it it are are very very liberal liberal It It says says that that you you can can love love anyone anyone but but let let them them be be and and don don t t get get in in their their way way Instead Instead you you should should do do your your own own things things It It also also says says that that marriage marriage itself itself doesn doesn t t mean mean much much especially especially these these days days But But the the deep deep lasting lasting bond bond that that two two people people have have is is strong strong enough enough to to overcome overcome all all challenges challenges
