How travel influencers are changing the tourism industry

As the value of social media influencers proceeds to grow and progress, so are the travel companies trying to shake hand with these influencers to make their products visible.

More than 40 percent of millennials aged 18 through 33 consider “Instagrammability” while choosing their next trip, according to one recent study by Schofields.

Of course, lower deals on airfare and hotels are the main motivators but the ability of influencers and social media has led to relatively exotic travel spots growing top-of-mind for users. One of the most productive ideas in business for decades drew off one of the easiest and most pleasant of Influencer campaigns in 2017. Coachella is a well-known music festival, mainly because it’s one that rock stars and entertainment stars attend themselves. It’s so cool that Airbnb chose to use some of the Influencers it could reach and the resulting campaign was pure brilliance.

The result was some huge advertising gains throughout the carnival, as stars posted photos and video of their Airbnb rooms to their followers and fans. At the same time, the brand also used a special power Influencer as well.

A famous model and an Influencer, with 3.7 million fans have huge power and influence on the platform. And when she posts about Coachella and introduces her friends at Airbnb, it all turns into a huge volume of the selling point.

This sharing of expertise has not only organized communities where people can unite and share their stories, but it can also shine the spotlight on important social and environmental concerns. “The only way we’re going to get people to go out there and care about these places is if we get them there,” Burkard says. “That’s the first step to being a conservationist — bothering about it. It’s never been more fashionable to be in nature.”

Across all of the categories, a clear pattern developed: The majority of mentions take place on Twitter, but the platform that drives the most engagement is Instagram.

While influencers’ trips may be backed by the brands they’re promoting, they remain considerably more relatable than stars in Television ads. The draw of this relatability gives influencers hold over Millennials, altering their travel decisions and growing their wanderlust. In short, travel influencer marketing is the reason Millennials demand more vacations, and Millennials are the cause these tactics work so thoroughly.
