“I
love you very much and I’m proud of you.” That was the short and powerful last
message an elderly woman wrote in a letter to her son.
Mariaan
Greyling (66) hanged herself with the cord of her bedside lamp on her cupboard
door at the Belfast retirement home on 8 November.
Management
of the home started becoming suspicious after she hadn’t answered calls or
opened her door for the second consecutive day. She was found dead in her room.
According
to the retirement home its residents were incredibly shocked about the
incident.
“We
work with old people every day, and although you expect them to pass on one
day, you don’t expect it to be like this,” a member of the home’s management,
who prefers to remain anonymous, said.
Marko
Greyling, Mariaan’s son told YOU that he’s in possession of his mother’s
suicide note. “My mom and dad divorced eight years ago and I don’t think she
ever got over the divorce.”
Marko
is Mariaan’s only son.
A
memorial service was held at Belfast Thursday last week.
