Being fair to the Catholic Church
Bronx: The Daily News is to be commended for its Oct. 28 editorial “The
News and the Church.” It’s good to know there is a media outlet that
can be both critical, when the facts and truth warrant, and at the same
time discerning and equitable.
An avalanche of accusations against priests, most dating back decades,
has tarnished the reputation of an otherwise great and charitable
institution. The scandal has caused some Catholics to question their
faith and the religion they once held as sacred. We can all agree there
have been members of the clergy who have committed the grievous sinof
sexual abuse, especially of minors. This morally reprehensible crime
occurs in all professions and backgrounds, yet most of the criticism,
outrage and condemnation have been directed at the Catholic Church.
Most of its enemies fear and seek to destroy the Catholic Church, which
they see as an obstacle in their path to a secular morally corrupt
society. These despoilers use the abuse scandal as a bludgeon to
inflict constant criticism and disdain in an effort to undermine the
church’s spiritual influence and force acquiescence to their liberal
progressive agenda on abortion and homosexuality. They couldn’t care
less about the children. Bob Pascarella
Picking sides
Flushing: Thank you, Daily News, for your help. By endorsing Clinton,
you helped me make up my mind about whom I should vote for. I guess
corruption, ethics, lying, deceit etc. are normal for your media
organization. Maybe those are the qualifications to run a nation. My
vote goes Republican. Trump is crude but not corrupted. Angel Guevara,
Sr.
Innocent in comparison
Little Neck: Even if Hillary Clinton is found guilty in the email mess,
which I’m sure will never happen , I would vote for her any day of the
week over Donald Trump. His claim that this is bigger then Watergate is
hogwash. He doesn’t know the facts. This is his only thing to do; he
knows nothing of the issues. He says Hillary should go to jail. How
about him? He stole thousands of dollars from victims of the phony
Trump University. He has no regret about stealing their money. He
should be in jail. He refuses to declare his taxes because he doesn’t
pay them. After this election is over he should take his millions of
dollars and at the age of 70 and retire. Gary Sullivan
Dirty talk
North Babylon, L.I.: To Voicer Jeanette Friedman: You are crude beyond
words, and shame on the Daily News for printing that word that Trump
used, even with the dashes in between the first and last letters.
Eileen Marie Schwab
Queen of corruption
Bronx: Voicer Jeanette Friedman forgets that Hillary’s cover-up of Bill
Clinton’s sexual harassment of women is much worse than anything Trump
has been accused of. My wife would have been out the door long ago if I
treated women the way Bill Clinton has. Hillary Clinton is the most
ethically challenged candidate for President we’ve ever had. We all
know that, if she were an ordinary candidate, she would be on her way
to prison, not the White House. G-d help America. David Hammer
Just the facts I
Temecula, Calif.: These days the DOJ has become so political that it is
fair to call it DOUJ (Department of Un-Justice). Election or no
election, Justice must take its own course. FBI Director Jim Comey did
his duty then, and he is doing his duty now. Both parties, the media
and all the so-called wise men should leave him alone to do a fair job
for the sake of our present and future generations. Das Sheenh
Just the facts II
Terre Haute, Ind.: Damned if he did. Damned if he didn’t. Had FBI
Director Jim Comey set upon this Weiner-Abedin computer information at
a point after this presidential election, the man would have been
eviscerated by law enforcement, the Republican Party, and conservative
media for withholding such context to the favor of the Democrat. Why
was Clinton using personal email servers to transmit classified
national security information? She made her own mess! Earl Beal
A third way
Manhattan: To Voicer Cynthia Kritikos: I’m right with you, along with
some other friends I know: I’m voting for Jill Stein as well. She’s not
going to win anyway, as Presidents are already pre-chosen a/k/a
“selected” and not “elected,” but Jill still gets my vote. It’s a
shame, the media deliberately shunned her and Gary Johnson from the
debates. Voting for the lesser of two evils is a cop-out that media
propaganda purposely duped the American people to believe in. Omar
Branch
Coming on Wednesday
Port Washington, L.I.: My prediction for the Daily News front page on
the day after the election: Hillary Wins. A Bitter Trump Vows To Sue
Everyone In The Country. David Gould
Right on point
Brooklyn: Voicer M.R. Boyd’s letter was spectacular. Boyd really nailed
everything that is so very wrong about the current presidential
election and the deplorable, biased reporting of what used to be my
favorite newspaper, the Daily News. Best of all, the description of
Teflon Hillary Clinton was perfect. I wish everyone in America could
read this letter. It might actually wake up some Clintonistas and force
them to see the horrible sham that is representing the Democratic
Party. Vera Badamo
How did they get there?
Bronx: In all the furor about the new trove of emails found on Anthony
Weiner’s computer, the most essential fact is being ignored. These
emails will probably not influence the election at all, since most
Americans have already made up their minds or have even cast their
votes already. Also, they may reveal nothing in addition to what was
initially investigated. However, the most crucial and most egregious
fact is that documents from the State Department were on devices owned
and used by Anthony Weiner a/k/a Carlos Danger, residing alongside who
knows what and available to be sent to anyone, perhaps even a
15-year-old girl in North Carolina. Nancy Pisacano
Low blow
Manhattan: “Bill and Hillary Clinton lead diabolical,
influence-peddling organized crime syndicate, FBI’s former NYC boss
says” (Oct. 30) is a disgusting article. A total smear job. Are you
seriously trying to affect the outcome of the elections? Deborah Paley
North, but not South
New Orleans: Actor Bryan Cranston maintains that he “would definitely
move” to Canada if Donald Trump were elected President. Why Canada? Why
not Mexico? David R. Dixon
Playing it straight in Brooklyn
Manhattan: I represent Vanessa Gathers, who was the only female among
21 individuals exonerated on motions of the late Brooklyn District
Attorney Ken Thompson. I write to address an unfair and unfounded
inference in your Nov. 1 editorial “Clear John O’Hara.” I do not know
John O’Hara, but I do know Eric Gonzalez. Any suggestion that he does
not take conviction review work seriously or that he is unfit to assume
Thompson’s mantle is belied by my own experience. During discussions
leading up to Gathers’ exoneration, Gonzalez met with me and other
members of the Gathers’ team for roughly two hours — he came with no
prejudgment, no time clock and he listened. It was clear to all
participants that he was prepared and that he not only had Thompson’s
ear but his trust. Thompson joined the meeting briefly and told us as
much. Your editorial closes by derisively referring to Gonzalez as
“another Hynes man.” Thank goodness for Gathers, he is not that. I know
how seriously he takes his predecessor’s commitment to remedying
legitimate miscarriages of justice. I have no idea whether O’Hara’s
case falls into that category, but I assure you that if it does he will
have a fair hearing from this district attorney. Lisa A. Cahill
Brand new and broken down
Forest Hills: I give the Second Ave. subway line two days before (like
the R train 365 days a year), there will be signal and switch problems,
track maintenance or mechanical problems. Sherri Rosen
Hang it up folks
Manhattan: People everywhere are on their cell phones — walking the
streets, at the checkout counter, sitting at a restaurant eating with a
friend — totally ignoring the person next to them. Nobody looks up from
their gadget to see their surroundings. This is the new idiot box. Live
in reality, look up from your phone. Patricia C. Wyzga
