08 January 2015
by Beth Robson

It is a picture that shows a play on words with a sombre poignancy.

Deal and Dover MP Charlie Elphicks has come put in support of the victims of yesterday's barbaric shootings at the offices of French satirical magazine, Charlie Hebdo in Paris.

The disturbing massacre saw the deaths of 12 people, with six others injured including the magazine's editor and a celebrated cartoonist as well as police officers.

It is believed Muslim extremists are responsible, with one attacker alleged to have shouted: "The Prophet has been avenged" after they broke fire in a military-style slaughter yesterday morning.

One man has handed himself in and police in France are hunting two brothers, Said Kouachi and Cherif Kouach.

President Hollande said it was an act of "extreme barbarity" and security has been stepped up in France and on our borders with the country.

People and public figures across the world have come out in support, posing for pictures donning the slogan, Je suis Charlie, or posting it to their social media pages.

Our MP Charlie Elphick has joined them and has posted this picture to Twitter.

He said: "Proud to represent Dover & Deal in Parliamentary tribute to the victims of yesterday's atrocity #JeSuisCharlie"

He posted the link to Facebook.

Pamela Hardman said: "Yes charlie. Well David needs to get the human rights amended, get us out of freedom to move. It could end up here. What a future for our children."

Anne Stepney added: "Nice one Charlie & also to Clair Hawkins too who did the same. But silence from Ukip."
