Businesswoman Annabel Karmel says woman are not as good at certain jobs as their male counterparts

She says she advised her daughter against being an oil trader because "she's too sensitive"

Businesswoman Annabel Karmel has suggested that some woman cannot cope with failure, and that there are some jobs that women are simply not good at.

Karmel was speaking at Cheltenham Literature Festival when she advised women to play to their strengths.

“I see a lot of women in business who try to be like a man and become aggressive, and I don’t think that is good for women and women aren’t suited for that,” she said.

She explained that her son, an oil and gas trader, had to be very thick-skinned in order to deal with people, and though her daughter wished to pursue a similar career, Karmel advised against it.

“I said no, you really wouldn’t enjoy it,” she said. “And I can see that she wouldn’t enjoy it, she’s too sensitive

“I think we are sometimes more sensitive than men. We need to pick what’s good for us.”

Karmel, who is known for running a luxury children’s food brand, was speaking at a panel called ‘Women In Business’ as part of the festival.

She insisted that she wasn’t saying every woman was sensitive, though she admitted she often was. “Sometimes I go into a room and I’m not very confident about this particular meeting.

“Women also want to be liked and sometimes in business, you just have to say no.”
