Maps To The Stars review and trailer: A dark satire starring Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson stars in this grim family saga about a literally incestuous showbiz family[PH]
I had high hopes for Maps To The Stars, a dark satire about Hollywood directed by David Cronenberg with a cast including Julianne Moore, Robert Pattinson and John Cusack.
The targets are all here (narcissistic actors, a monstrous child actor, a masseuse to the the stars) but they are a repellent bunch; dull and obnoxious without exception, their foibles uninteresting. There is no one to sympathize with
The result is a significant disappointment, more grim family saga about a literally incestuous show business family than lively, entertaining or even vaguely amusing comedy.
The targets are all here (narcissistic actors, a monstrous child actor, a masseuse to the the stars) but they are a repellent bunch; dull and obnoxious without exception, their foibles uninteresting. There is no one to sympathize with.
Julianne Moore makes the most impression as a self-obsessed actress whose mother was a much more famous actress but the character’s tiresomely one-note (two if you include the noises she produces when on the toilet). Re-watch Robert Altman’s The Player instead.
