Could not subscribe, try again later [perth-buff.jpg] Perth in the Buff St Johnstone’s Scottish Cup triumph has inspired the Perth in the Buff team to score with a new show. And you can bet everything from the Scottish referendum to the Ryder Cup will be fair game for Andy Gray, Ian Grieve, Amanda Beveridge and Charlie Fraser when they reflect on 2014 with their popular mix of satire and song. The date for the diary is Saturday, November 1 at the Corinna, which hosts the seventh Buff production, ‘Road to Glory’. The poster for the latest show looks suspiciously like the PA’s cup final supplement, with Andy playing the part of Perth hero Stevie May and the rest of the cast donning GS Brown shirts in the background. The Buff team are onto another winner as they draw inspiration from the cup final and the open-top bus parade which followed the club’s first-ever cup triumph in 130 years. Pinning down the busy Buffers to a show date has proved challenging but now it’s game on. Andy, who is counting down to his 35th panto, Aladdin - and a 17th season at the Kings Theatre in Edinburgh, with 85 shows on the cards - explained: “We have been dormant for too long because we have all been busy on other projects. But now we are good to go and we’ve been working up the latest show.” Popular characters like Perthy Gardener, Chantelle the hairdresser, Marjorie Farquharson from Scone and PA roving reporter Pamela O’Donnelly all make a welcome return. And they will be joined by new faces like old stager Footy McPhail and a player invited to pen a spoof cup final diary. There’s every likelihood the Scottish Cup will be making a guest appearance, with Aberdein Considine solicitor Charlie wielding influence as Saints’ vice-chairman. Ian, fresh from landing a prized role as former Prime Minister Gordon Brown in a Channel 4 film Coalition, explained: “When Saints won the cup people on social media were saying it would be perfect for a Perth in the Buff comeback - and we agreed. But the Edinburgh Fringe and other commitments put things on hold until now. “That weekend was a crazy time for Perth and something we had never seen the likes of. It was terrific.” Andy drove north from a theatrical production in Leicester just to savour the atmosphere in his native city on the Sunday. “I think there’s still blue and white confetti drifting in through the flat windows. It was amazing to see so many people on the streets. As a kid I got excited when Billy Smart’s Circus came to town but this was something else. “I had to miss the match but I was determined not to miss the celebrations. And they were extraordinary.” Ian, who was touring with his one-man Gordon Brown show for 18 months before securing the role in an unconnected film, is counting down to playing Sleeping Beauty’s dad in the two-week Perth Concert Hall panto. He said: “The cup final is the hook for the latest Buff production and we have been drawing plenty material from the PA. Sometimes we don’t even have to change it!” Amanda, who has teamed her commitment to the Scott Street Theatre Arts School with teaching drama at Morrison’s and Ardrvreck, will provide a feminine slant on the football. Local institutions like St Johnstone, the council and the PA are cannon fodder for the Buff team’s wit and repartee, with Andy stressing: “We all love Perth and live here so the satire comes from our love of the place. Moving back here was the best decision I ever made.” Perth in the Buff advance tickets are available from wegottickets.com and at the Corinna door, Atholl Street, on November 1. The show starts at 8pm.
