Celebrity news Gary Lineker: How I became a theatre aficionado * Miranda Bryant * Wednesday 26 November 2014 10:36 BST * The play’s the thing: Gary Lineker with his wife, the actress and model Danielle Bux (Picture: Dave Bennett) Gary Lineker says he has become a theatre “aficionado” — and it’s all thanks to wife Danielle Bux. The football pundit, 53, told the Standard that since meeting the actress and model he had been racking up the theatre visits and now “genuinely loves it”. For her part Bux, who married the Match of the Day presenter in 2009, said she had developed an interest in football and would “occasionally watch a good game”. Lineker, who was at Southwark Playhouse with Bux for the press night of new play Saxon Court, said that Death of a Salesman, starring the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, and the Broadway production of The River were among the best plays he had seen. The former England striker said: “I’ve become a bit of an aficionado through the obvious association to the theatre but I go a lot now, I genuinely love it. “We were in New York for The River which was amazing. We’re quite friendly with a few people in the business now. We saw Death of a Salesman with Philip Seymour Hoffman, which adds to it now — that was incredible.” Related links * 'He must be so pissed off' - Former Tottenham striker reacts to Harry Kane's omission... then Twitter explodes after his late winner * Gary Lineker calls on Hodgson and Liverpool boss Rodgers to settle their differences * Go on my son: could Gary Lineker's son George be the next Simon Cowell? The couple spoke of their passion for supporting emerging theatre companies such as Made By Brick, which is putting on Saxon Court. The satire, directed by Melanie Spencer, is set in a recruitment office at the height of the financial crisis. Bux, 35, who starred in the company’s last play, Responsible Other, said: “[Made by Brick] are young and innovative and the stuff they do is different, it’s interesting.” Lineker said: “I’m full of admiration for someone who can get off their backside and make something happen through their own will and determination. It’s hard in this business.” Saxon Court is at Southwark Playhouse until December 13.
