It’s all gangs, guns, drugs, strippers and prostitutes. But a clip from the new GTA V is causing some controversy for being sexist as it shows a woman trying to drive away from character Trevor Philips, but finding herself struggling to do a 3-point turn. She ends up performing a ludicrous 20-point - reminiscent of this famous scene in Austin Powers - turn that culminates in her running into Trevor and bumping a few cars before eventually managing the manoeuvre. The video was posted to social news site Reddit under the title "women drivers in GTA V". Within the comments, someone else posted another video of a female character (Jimmy's older sister Tracey) having major problems trying to manoeuvre, although this may have something to do with a glitch in the artificial intelligence of the game. It’s true that GTA V isn't particularly female-friendly - there has never been a female protagonist and women are relegated to the roles of sex objects. But it's worth pointing out that Grand Theft Auto treats EVERYBODY in this way. Men are shallow, flippantly misogynist and obsessed with sleek sports cars, police are incompetent, Mexicans are all drug runners or illegal immigrants, there’s an anti-Semitic portrayal of a Jewish lawyer and paparazzi are creepy and predatory. There are unsavoury stereotypes at every turn, which the game franchise is trying to make fun of, with varying degrees of success. It's supposed to be satire, but there are some scenes like the first-person prostitute sex where the some of the humour gets lost.
