General Strike in Greece on November 6

general strike GreeceOn Wednesday November 6,  a general strike of public and private sectors will take place for 24-hours and there is a possibility that protests will continue.

Public Servant’s Union (ADEDY) and General Confederation of Greek Labor (GSEE) declared “The fight against austerity measures is our only hope,” noting that “redundancy in the public and private sector and unprecedented new tax measures are leading to the forfeiture of the dwelling. On top of it, the upcoming new cuts in pensions, the labor relations overthrow, in combination with the abolition of Sunday holiday are exacerbating social impasse.”

Moreover, state hospitals and the ambulance service will operate with skeleton staff due to the general strike called by the ADEDY and GSEE labor unions.

Health centers will also be affected as the healthcare workers’ union, POEDIN, has called on its members to gather outside the Health Ministry in central Athens from 10 a.m. to protest against austerity measures.

There will be no international flights from noon to three p.m. on Wednesday and public transport will be disrupted as workers join a 24-hour general strike.

Unlike other workers, the air traffic controllers will not stay away from their posts for 24 hours. However, they will walk off the job between noon and 3 p.m. This may cause delays and cancellations so passengers should contact with their airlines.

The Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) will also join to the strike.

GSEE underlined that “The struggle will be continued as long as the government insists on social and labor mercilessness; as recessionary increases; as destructive Troika’s policy continues to multiply the impasse. We demand jobs for everyone, free collective bargaining and democratic rights.”

With Troika in town I see that Greece is perfectly organized again by its corrupt Government and Unions until the next tranche gets signed off, right? After all no foreign taxpayers money should go to waste!

Wake up People & Continue to STRIKE!!!— TIME TO VOTE THESE ROTTEN POLITICIANS OUT & put them in jail for Life for “High Treason” against Greece !

The 2 “criminal gangs” from PASOK & New Democracy Parties are running
a Government of Thieves, Liars & Crooks who created all these problems
today. It was PASOK & ND Parties who created Golden Dawn and the Far Left
by their corrupt rule and mismanagement of Greece. (Akis Tzahadzopolous from
PASOK is just one example of their corruption).

1.) Why isn’t PASOK’s MP Venizelos in jail for hiding the Legarde List 2
years in his home? And what about Venizelos’
controversial submarine bribery deal, he signed in 2010?

2.) Why isn’t PASOK’s Finance MP Papconstantiou in jail for removing his
    relative’s names on the List?

3.) What about PASOK & ND Parties still owing 250 million Euros to the
Banks in phony loans they have not paid back yet?
4.) What about Health Minister Georgiades who got caught chaeting on his taxes the other day and was let off with a minor fine of 1200 Euros. Whys is he still a Minister and not fired??

It seems to me the Gov’t and Press is using Golden Dawn & SYRIZA as a
“distraction” to take attention away from the Massive Crimes these two corrupt Parties have committed as well as Treason against the whole Greek nation after 39 years of corrupt rule!

  • The Truth is…

This ADEDY union is ripping the country apart, caused the country’s bankruptcy, shattered it’s economy and they still strike instead of working towards helping the country in it’s hard times after all they are the ones who caused all this massive crisis by borrowing to pay their huge salaries and shocking benefits…This ADEDY and its supporters are all thieves, they should be banned from striking and the government should take harsh measures by sacking anyone from the public sector who strike…Unions should be banned all together, they cause havoc for no apparent reason…They should pay a heavy price for sinking the country and it’s economy…

  • The Truth is…

In some point I agree with you but what I don’t agree is what ADEDY is doing…Let me just say this to you for the records…2 elements are the cause of this crisis A) Corrupt politicians B) Public servants C) some elements from the private sector supported by the public sector D) Justice system…I also wish to say that Belgium for 535 days was without a government and the system was working 100% perfect like a clock…

  • Operation Paperbag?

Just another good day in Greece. Does anybody work?

  • BAV1

Frankly I don’t see these repeated strikes achieving anything other than denting the economy further thus leading to more job cuts.

  • Anushka

Yes dear boy some of us work damn hard! I for one work in the Shipping Industry and travel from the Northen Suburb of Nea Erythrea in Athens all the way to Piraeus everyday. Piraeus being the city next to Athens and I can assure you the train is always full and if I ever drive the roads are jammed! So yes people do work and very hard I’ll have you know. Don’t make assumptions based on the media. Surely your mind isn’t that weak that you can’t think for yourself and believe everyword your fellow cheesburger eating Americans write.

  • Anushka

Yes when will we finally get ride of these awful politicians who have done nothing but rob the country blind. How these pigs thought they would get away with it is unreal. I’m so glad they’re being played at their own game and yes I hope they do end up in jail…..

  • Eleni

This is single-handedly the most ignorant comment I’ve read yet.

  • Eleni

Maybe but, the alternative is doing nothing at all about it and accepting the dent in the economy and further job cuts. It’s called fighting for your rights.

  • BAV1

I sympathise with your sentiment Eleni and admit that I do not live there to experience the full pain and of what ordinary people are going through presently. By all accounts its a nightmare situation for most. It just seems to me that by these repeated actions the point of strong protest and indignation has been well and truly made. So there is a boundary to this. If society does not desist but is hell bent to tearing each other apart you all become certain losers. To be able to support your rights this debt crises needs to be turned around.

  • BAV1

I can attest to the honest, hard working ethic of the great majority of Greeks and thus fully agree with your point. The trouble is that there is a distinct minority, typical of just about any other country, who thinks that they are owed a living. It is these people who are giving the rest a bad name. Unfortunately their antics in Greece are in full international glare given the nature and extent of this crisis. So it is not surprising that it is being repeatedly highlighted, even though this is a very skewed, unfair portrayal.

  • Vasiliki-kefala

Here in America only the ” Greek off the boaters” eat cheeseburgers. We Americans prefer Angus beef or better yet Kobe beef.
You my boy sound very anti-American, I would be careful if I was you. Your co-workers, bosses and customers may find out and you may end up being on of the 30% unemployed.

  • The Truth is…

So tell me pls who caused this crisis???
