Cyclist runs down pensioner

POLICE are appealing for help identifying a cyclist who knocked down a pensioner and then fled the scene.

The 68-year-old woman was crossing Station Road, Clacton, at about 3.30pm on Friday when a cyclist came riding the wrong way down the one-way street.

The bicycle hit the pedestrian, who is from the Clacton area, knocking her to the ground.

The man riding the bike initially stopped and tried to help his victim, but she was in too much pain to get up.

Instead of staying, witnesses told police the man then abandoned his black mountain bike at the scene and walked off.

Officers investigating the accident are appealing for the man to come forward, or for anyone who knows him to get in contact.

He was described as white, chubby, in his mid to late-30s and with short cropped hair. He was wearing black jogging bottoms, a black jumper and trainers.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Colchester General Hospital with a suspected broken shoulder.
