[6]Evidence: Leafs Fans Have No Clue

   Of all the real stories in sports today, the one getting non-stop play
   amongst all the Toronto Hockey Pucks (credit: McCown's term for hockey
   fans) is the non-story of Gary Roberts publicly requesting a trade to
   return to Toronto as to benefit a situation with his daughter.
   The first thing I think to myself is.. who cares? Obviously, after
   listening to Toronto's All Sports Radio Station the FAN590 all
   afternoon, the brilliant Leafs Nation fans care and care deeply.
   I learned today that if the Leafs bring in a 40-year old left winger
   who scored all of 40 points last season while making $4.5M in the NHL
   cap system, the Leafs will go all the way to the Stanley Cup. Caller
   after caller thought Gary Roberts, with his passion and hard working
   ways, could serve as the Leafs' version of Rob Brind'Amour. Roberts is
   the missing ingredient to a Leafs playoff run according to many in the
   Leafs Nation.
   Give me a (#&(^@ break. First of all, Brind'Amour is 36 not 40 like
   Roberts, and in the pro sports world that's an eternity. Secondly,
   Roberts had 40 points, Brind'Amour had 70. Thirdly, Brind'Amour is
   surrounding by high quality, young, super-talented, motivated studs
   like Eric Staal whereas Toronto has what? Thomas Steen? Steen who had
   all of 45 points this year compared to Staal's 100... Sure Brind'Amour
   and Staal didn't play on the same line but hopefully you get the idea.
   The absolute last thing the Toronto Maples Leafs need is another
   over-the-hill veteran to come in to take up far too much room in the
   salary structure... they already have Tie Domi and Mats Sundin for
   that. The Leafs need to look at the blueprint of the Hurricanes and
   Sabres of last season to see what's working in the "new" NHL. If
   Roberts wants to come back to Toronto so he can be closer to his
   daughter, maybe he should realize he's 40-years old and it might be
   time to hang 'em up and stick to doing bad Oke Printer radio
   advertisements.

          Agreed, Toronto hockey fans do not have a clue. They have
          unfailingly supported an inferior team with inferior management
          and a faceless, uncaring ownership for years. I think it
          reflects a passion for the game which defies reason.
          Hockey in Toronto is a license to print money.
