Down on the Street

Jalopnik has a regular feature called Down On The Street, where old cars on the streets of Alameda, an island in San Francisco bay, are photographed. It just reached its 150th vehicle. Each of these little photo essays has loads of reference, whether for particular vehicles or just weathering and realistic damage.

Japanese kit nostalgia

Old Japanese models, depicting a variety of odd and fantastic subjects. Lots of Star Wars rip offs and transforming robots as well as stuff licenced from old school anime. For the automotive modeller I think 1:24th Sumo wrestlers or 1:25th lemonade stand would be great diorama additions.

(I tried translating teh page, but somehow that meant I lost the images, which are the main joy of it.)

A miniature air force for Christmas

The Tate Modern gallery's Christmas tree is this year adorned with models of all the fighter planes currently in service, 122 in total.

[Fiona Banner], known for her huge text descriptions of war films, has made what appears to be traditional kit models of all the world's 122 fighter planes, after a considerable amount of research to discover exactly which planes are in service, not something many countries like to boast about.

Some models are commercially available, others do not exist in kit form, so she had to create them from scratch, and as the more anoraky small visitors will undoubtedly clock immediately, she has chosen not to give any of them insignia or any markings of nationality.

Lazy Weathering

In an effort to clear his workspace so he can get round to making some train models, Dan thought of a really simple, and lazy, way to simulate flood damage on a car model.

I've got a 1:76th Ford Zephyr Zodiac Mk 1 model from Classix that may become another Small Scale Custom project. So I'm looking for reference pictures.
