Pau sauve sa peau

   De Sports.fr La Section Paloise a obtenu, dimanche, son maintien dans
   l'élite grâce à son succès face à Aurillac (46-13) lors du match de
   barrage qui se tenait à Toulouse. Une victoire acquise dans la douleur
   malgré l'ampleur du score puisque les Béarnais n'ont fait la
   différence qu'en fin de match. A l'issue d'une saison chaotique qui a
   failli tourner au cauchemar, les Palois sont donc parvenus à sauver
   l'essentiel et participeront au Top 14 la saison prochaine. Mais des
   enseignements devront être tirés à l'intersaison si le club veut
   repartir sur de bonnes bases.

   Un grand soulagement. Voilà ce qu'ont ressenti les Palois dimanche à
   Toulouse. Contraint de disputer un match de barrage face à Aurillac,
   cinquième de la saison régulière de la Pro D2, pour assurer leur
   survie dans l'élite, la Section Paloise a su éviter le piège constitué
   par ce match couperet. Et pourtant, il était de taille puisque
   Aurillac se présentait avec une énorme envie fort de ses victoires
   arrachées à Montauban (21-20) puis à Lyon (21-19) lors de la phase
   finale de l'anti-chambre du Top 16.
   Et comme on pouvait s'y attendre, tout ne fut pas simple pour les
   Béarnais sur la pelouse d'Ernest-Wallon. Contre une équipe déterminée
   à jouer son va-tout et accrocheuse à souhait, Pau a longtemps
   bafouillé son rugby comme pendant une bonne partie de la saison. Une
   fois n'est pas coutume, la Section Paloise s'en remettait à la botte
   de Ludovic Mercier pour prendre les devants avant que les
   pensionnaires de l'élite ne trouvent une première fois la faille juste
   avant le repos par un essai de son trois-quarts centre Jean-Charles
   Cistacq (13-3, 40e).
   Remplacer les cadres
   Au retour des vestiaires, Aurillac recollait même au score grâce à un
   essai d'Anthony Martrette (13-10, 47e) mais les vingt-cinq dernières
   minutes allaient se révéler fatidiques pour les Auvergnats. Les
   Palois, visiblement plus frais en fin de match, allaient passer la
   surmultipliée et inscrire pas moins de cinq essais supplémentaires
   pour s'assurer une large victoire (46-13) trompeuse sur les
   difficultés rencontrées par la Section durant la première heure de
   jeu.
   Le maintien dans l'élite assuré, Pau va désormais pouvoir se tourner
   vers la préparation de la saison prochaine. Dans une élite ramenée à
   quatorze unités, les Palois espèrent bien ne pas revivre une saison
   aussi galère que celle-ci. Pour cela, les dirigeants devront vite
   s'atteler à la construction de la nouvelle équipe qui passe par le
   remplacement de cinq joueurs et pas des moindres: Carbonneau, Mercier,
   Tincu, Faure, Peyras. Thierry Mentières va devoir retrouver des cadres
   et construire une équipe plus équilibrée s'il veut que la Section
   retrouve de son éclat dès la reprise du championnat.
